In the lead up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, The Queen’s Baton Relay has been making its way around Australia, with the baton carried by athletes and inspirational locals. Shawl Group’s director, Ashley Jones, was lucky enough to be nominated and selected to complete a leg of the relay.
Thousands turned out on Sunday afternoon in La Perouse, Sydney to watch Ash and other baton carriers such as 2GB sports commentator David Morrow, who passed the baton to Ash.
Other notable people who have carried the baton include Ian Thorpe, Glenn McGrath and Leisel Jones.
It’s an honour for Ash to be recognised by his local community, Shawl Group and the Totally Workwear franchise.
Shawl Group is active in supporting and giving back to the community – In the last six months alone, Shawl Group has contributed to many charities through sponsorships, donations and raising awareness.
In 2017, Shawl Group donated screen-printed shirts to the ‘Sky’s the limit – Mini Olympics’. This is an event which allows people with disabilities and special needs to enjoy and compete in a variety of sporting activities – bringing empowerment and joy to those with special needs.
The Mini Olympics Organising Committee said; “We would like to thank Shawl Group for their ongoing support of Sky’s the Limit Mini Olympics, it has enriched the lives of our participants.”
Shawl Group has also provided goods to the ‘Love for Lachie’ charity – created by Tanja and Brendan who sadly lost their 10yr old son, Lachie Muldoon, to a brain tumour. This is a charity that raises funds to support the research of brain tumours and other cancers to help find a cure. Shawl Group is pleased to have contributed towards their ‘Golf Day’ fund raising events – including store vouchers, promotional items and personalised printed t-shirts for the golf players.
It’s also important to Shawl Group to support local sporting clubs as well as our own staff’s sporting ventures.
This year, we are the premium sponsor of the Sydney University Football Club. We provided team blazers with customised embroidery for their trip to Japan, as well as signage for around the sporting grounds.
Every year, Shawl Group participates in ‘Movember’, a charity very close to our hearts. We donate $5 for every pair of shorts sold during November, raising over $4000 this year.
Shawl Group often holds promotional BBQ’s to raise money for a charity of choice. Most recently we held an Australia Day BBQ with a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to Cancer Council Australia.
It is so important for everyone at Shawl Group to give back to the community by supporting local business, charities, sports and families. We look forward to more opportunities to help those in need in the future.
